New event for 2019 and the 38 mile race is the second race of the Louisiana Triple Crown series which concludes with the Tour du Teche (October 4-6 2019). The first race of the series is the Quachita River 49er (March 23, 2019).

The BVPB race has two distance options 15 miles or 38 miles and a preme will be awarded to the first boat/class arriving at the Pinhook Bridge.  Open to all human powered boats.

9AM - 5PM Packet Pick Up for BVPB at Pack & Paddle (601 E Pinhook Rd, Lafayette, LA 70501)

7AM Lower Atchafalya River Sprint produced by Tour de Teche organization in Patterson, LA opens up boat check and first race starts at 9AM. The race is a 3 mile race for kayaks, canoes, pirogues, and SUP’s in Patterson.

8 AM Opening Ceremony

9 AM- Solo Female S/D

10 AM Solo Male S/D

6AM Day of registration, check-in & boat check open

7AM Shuttle departs from Abbeville finish line (38 mile race) back to the start for those dropping vehicles off in Abbeville.

7:30AM Shuttle departs from Cafe 20.3 (1500 General Mouton, Lafayette, LA) the 15 mile race finish line back to the start for those dropping their vehicle off.

8AM Start all boats classes and race distances

10AM – 7PM  lunch, dinner and beverages for all registered participants at Cafe 20.3

12PM Award ceremony 15 mile race @Cafe 20.3

3PM Awards ceremony 38 mile race @ Cafe 20.3

Classes to compete in Louisiana Triple Crown

Pro Race Division (classes used for all triple crown races)

CLASS A- USCA C 2 /PRO (USCA SPECS)

CLASS B- USCA C2/PRO (USCA SPECS ) ALL FEMALE

All two person canoes that can race at the USCA nationals and that include the following boat specifications 3X27 (Pro-Boat), 4X32 (USCA cruiser), and USCA Standard C2. Single blade paddle only. Temporary modifications to this type of boat to make it fit into any other class are not allowed.

CLASS C- SOLO UNLIMITED SINGLE BLADE

CLASS D- SOLO UNLIMITED SINGLE BLADE FEMALE

Limited to one paddler, single blade paddles only. Minimum length 14 feet.

CLASS E- TANDEM UNLIMITED SINGLE BLADE

CLASS F- TANDEM UNLIMITED SINGLE BLADE ALL FEMALE

Limited to two paddlers, single blade paddles only  USCA C2s do not qualify for this class, USCA C2s must race in class A.  For canoes longer than 18.5 foot.

CLASS G- SOLO UNLIMITED DOUBLE OR SINGLE BLADE

CLASS H- SOLO UNLIMITED DOUBLE OR SINGLE BLADE FEMALE

Limited to one paddler, double blade paddles or single blades allowed.  Minimum length 14 feet.

CLASS I- TANDEM UNLIMITED DOUBLE OR SINGLE BLADE

CLASS J -TANDEM UNLIMITED DOUBLE OR SINGLE BLADE ALL FEMALE

Limited to two paddlers, double blade paddles or single blades allowed.  Minimum length 14 feet.

CLASS K- BIG BOAT UNLIMITED DOUBLE OR SINGLE BLADE

CLASS L- BIG BOAT UNLIMITED DOUBLE OR SINGLE BLADE ALL FEMALE

Minimum three paddlers, maximum six paddlers, single and double blade paddles are interchangeable throughout the race.

Special Classes for the Lower Atchafalaya River Sprint

  • Men and Mixed Tandem (single or double blade paddles) – This is one class

  • Man solo (single or double blade paddles)

*Recreation means canoe, kayaks under 19 foot in length and with no movable rudder, also includes peddle boats.
