If you love Festivals Acadiens et Créoles as much as we do then you will love the Tour des Atakapas race! Celebrating our Cajun & Creole heritage is important to maintaining our culture in south Louisiana. The run is a joint coordinated project between TRAIL and Festivals Acadiens et Créoles. The run raises money to invest back into the parks and recreational facilities in our communities.
The run will finish with an after party at the Festival.
The Festivals Acadiens et Créoles starts on October 11th and jams until the 14th.
3, 5, OR 7 MILE RUNS: Actual mileages may be slightly different, but expect them to be close to these distances.
RUN-PADDLE-RUN DUATHLON: The Duathlon will be a run-paddle-run starting with a 1.5 mile run to the river, followed by a paddle from Cafe 20.3 (1500 General Mouton) up to Vermilionville and back (2 miles), ending with a 1.5 mile run back to the finish. Paddlers will have the option of doing the paddle solo or in tandem with a partner. Bring your own boat or rent one. We from the Boy Scouts or Pack n Paddle. Kayaks, canoes and paddle boards are all welcome.
PACKET PICK UP: Geaux Run 906 Harding St., Lafayette, LA. Friday October 12th from 11a until 6p. After you pickup your packet head over to Girard Park for Festivals Acadiens et Creoles and put your $15 gift certificate to use.
PARKING: Primary parking is available at 901 Wilson (the old Park Place Surgery Center) located between Girard Park and the start/finish line. You can also park along the streets of the Oil Center. Regardless you will have the best parking spots around since you are getting to FAetC early.
DAY OF REGISTRATION & CHECK IN: Begins at 7:30am at the pavilion in Girard Park where the post-race food & beverages will be.
RESTROOMS: There will be portable toilets near the pavilion in Girard Park and throughout the park. There will be two restrooms at the intersection of Wilson St. and Audubon Blvd. near the primary parking. On the course there are public restrooms we will stock with toilet paper in Beaver Park near the boat landing, at Cafe 20.3, before the 3 mile turn around, and near the tennis courts where the 5 & 7 mile courses split.
START TIME: 8:30 AM all distances and events.
START LOCATION: Corner of Audubon Blvd and Wilson St. in the Oil Center. Directly across the street from the Girard Park pavilion.
POST RACE PARTY: Will be in the pavilion in Girard Park with plenty of beverages and food for the runners. The award ceremony will be on the nearby Heritage Stage of the festival. The party continues in Girard Park with Festivals Acadiens et Créoles with the first bands starting at 11:00 AM.
All runners will get a $15 gift certificate to be used at Festival Acadien on pins, posters, CDs and beverage tickets. The gift certificate does not apply to garments.
Top finishers get a Myers Cocktail IV treatment from Clark Integrated Medical Clinic
Unique finishers' medal based on the FAetC logo.
Plenty of Coca-Cola products, Schilling products, and FOOD!!! Shrimp Etouffeé will be on the menu for 2018.
T-shirts do not come free with registration. Make sure you select the t-shirt option when you register to purchase one for $15. T-Shirts are also available for purchase at packet pickup and on race morning.
3.7 mile run, 5.4 mile run, 7.9 mile run, and 5 mile run/paddle/run duathlon: All races are road races on open roads (expect vehicles on the course), with major intersections monitored by the police department. The 7.9 mile course has about 1 mile of cross country running along the Vermilion River. Check out the courses on RideWithGPS.
WHY: Proceeds will be used by TRAIL and Festivals Acadiens et Créoles to invest in Acadiana area parks and recreational facilities.
REFUND POLICY: Registrations are non-refundable at this point. We do allow for registration fees to be rolled forward to a future event. The request for a registration to roll forward must be made 2 weeks before the start of the event in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org. A registration that is rolled forward is not subject to a cash refund in the future event even if the refund policy for that event permits a refund.
CANCELLATION POLICY: The events will take place in rain and other weather conditions. If for some extraneous reason, such as severe weather, then we will first try to reschedule the event. If we cancel the event for that year all together then we will refund participants to the best of our ability.
